Visit The Presidio of San Francisco

Spanning over 1500 acres and established as a former U.S. Army military fort, this gorgeous subdivision of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area is perfect for guests who love art, shopping, history, and nature. The Presidio is divided into four separate portions, all with fun activities, breathtaking views, rich history and more which is sure to fulfill every type of adventure visitors are interested in.

The Main Post, the heart of the Presidio, is the main bustling hub and primary visitor center. Guests should initially check into the Visitor Center for advice and area maps to maximize their visit. The Officers Club is also available offering Main Post history, photographs and area map best suited for guided tours of the Presidio. The Main Post is home to a wide array of restaurants, cafes, and a large picnic gathering area perfect for festivities, informal outdoor activities, and social gatherings. Also explore the Andy Goldsworthy art installation museum, a Sport and Medicine Center, Yoga Studio, Bowling Centre Social Community Club and a Center of Digital Arts.

Tour the Western shoreline for gorgeous city skyline views including the famous Golden Gate Bridge, or enjoy walking and cycling trails near and around The Bridge. Stop by Baker Beach to soak in the sun, the Golden Gate Overlook Point and the Fort Point Historic Site to observe preserved coastal gun batteries and cannons used during the war when the military post was still actively defending the gate from intruders.

Venture Mountain Lake along the Southern Coastline and enjoy a world-class golf course, bird watching, forest campgrounds, and another museum featuring creative local art installations. Hiking trails allow travelers multiple scenic overlook areas to rest, and one of the perfect family trails leads to Julius Kahn Playground and Field which provides hours of fun for children of all ages.

The fourth and final Crissy Field quadrant, is approximately 100-acres and located along the northern shoreline and offers recreational fields, picnic areas, panoramic views, walking and cycling trails, a rock climbing gym, Historic Learning Center, quaint cafes and grab-and-go restaurants providing visitors with the best of both worlds. Crissy Field is now run by the National Park Service and Golden Gate Parks Conservatory.  The climbing gym and trampoline center were previously used as airplane hangars, and other areas of the park have been creatively restored for tourists delight.
